DTCs, or Diagnostic Trouble Codes, are error codes generated by a vehicle’s Engine Control Unit (ECU) when it detects a problem. These codes help identify specific issues that may need attention, ranging from sensor malfunctions to more serious engine faults. In some cases, DTCs can also appear when certain systems have been intentionally removed or modified on a vehicle. When this happens, we can modify the ECU software to remove the relevant DTCs, ensuring that unnecessary fault codes are not triggered.
If you are located outside of the UK, please check your local laws. For UK customers and installers, Under the Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations and the Road Traffic Act 1988 it is an offence to use on a road a vehicle which has been modified in such a way that it no longer complies with the air pollutant emissions standards it was originally designed to meet. Removal of emissions control devices is intended to support motorsport and off-road applications.
In the case of DTC removal, it's legality is going to depend on the type of DTC being removed, and why.
